Sometimes (or maybe often?) the interviewer will try to touch subjects or angles for which we don’t have a good counter frame or response. When we get there, instead of trying to fight with that frame, just switch to another topic altogether. It can be a tangentially related topic, or a completely different topic. Just switch, and the interviewer kind of has to keep the conversation going, After a minute or two, the interviewer might forget what topic they tried to steer you into, and the listeners will forget much sooner.<\/p>\n
Of course switching will be a bit abrupt, so it helps to insert some transitional expression just keep the appearances:

\nThe reporter could come back to the same question maybe once, but they can’t keep on hammering a question on a live show. That would ruin their show. They need to move on and keep the show “flowing”. <\/p>\n
To the interviewer, and maybe to listener who are paying very close attention, the interview can come across as detached and clearly trying to avoid the topics. They could come off from the interview thinking that we are dumb, that we didn’t understand the question, etc. But the vast majority of the listeners are only paying light attention to the show. They have it on and are driving, doing chores, studying. And as long as the show just flows, they will follow the flow of the conversation. And our task will be done by having avoided a dangerous frame for the vast majority of voters.<\/p>\n
This technique will not work for newspapers, but for live TV and Radio, it should work well.<\/p>\n
