I’ve been pondering on grades lately – I really need to raise em a bit if I want to go the internship path this summer. I realized that besides my intro logic class – aka the football player’s gpa booster – I haven’t gotten a single A so far. Not even A-. Expectancy is so high it’s not even funny.
And this semester I chose easy classes, I studied hard, sometimes I even studied for specific tests, and even began drinking coffee! Dude! Last thursday, I got an espresso double! (That kept me up from midnight to 2:20pm) Somehow we need a party system in which smart kids get the most exposure to drugs and drinks – maybe reslife can help here- so that the curve becoms more relaxed.

Audun Solli: The “spectacle” is a complex term that refers to the mechanisms that the present dominant mode of productions, i.e., capitalism. The spectacle is the source of the only discourse that is used in capitalism, secular society: it’s a celebration of a choice already made about the mode of production. In other words, the spectacle essentially refer to the mechanisms, that uphold capitalism and that allege that no other way so organizing production is possible. Thus, the spectacle’s function in society is “the concrete manufacture of alienation” (#32)., i.e., by consuming spectacles, one is separated/alienated from forming or making one’s own life. // The spectacle constitutes the exercise of power, as defined by Foucault; the spectacle restricts the possible actions, that people can take. // [Very good!]

I was playing with the rotating chair in the infodesk. I was just kicking the ground while holding my feet in the air, so I would turn to my left and to my left and to my left.. and so on, turning to my left forever. Then the campus center manager came in and asked me if I was mad. He was referring to my shorts, but I thought he meant the chair. Before than that though I thought I could get sick more easily by doing something else while keep turning left (I’m pretty strong to nausea). I grabbed my german listening homework, put the audio track from the HRC on play, and began solving the exercises. The stimulus proved to be efficient soon – I had to run out of the building for fresh air before throwing the three Wsten and a racimo of eggs I had stuck into my stomach hours ago.
Morale: rotating chairs do good, and promote diversitz awareness amongst sociology majors. I should get one with my next paycheck.

I’m finally getting up to the working rythm at Mac. Man, this is incredibly demanding. I now kinda understand why do the academic programs people limit the credit registration to 18 per semester, but I still think I’ll be able to do more in junior year. Done with the ethics paper, phew! It’s a pretty interesting topic, an argument for an alternative method of thought. Chem finals scares the hell outta of me. I just need a C to pass, but it seems so hard… especially when considering I need to extensively review thermodynamics. Calculus seems hopeless – I have a test tomorrow and I think a B is impossible in that one, not even for the finals. I’m fortunate I can pass the german with a D. Haha, I’m a LOSER! LOSER! At least I’ll get the 14 credits I need to be considered full-time student, so the hell with it.

oh my god. how many ppm of radium does a pitchblende of uranium contain?

Heavy snow!
Oh yeah. Too bad it’s only one day though. It would be cool howm any miles thick of snow are these forecaster expecting us to stumble upon tomorrow afternoon. I love cold weathers. My weekend has been a waste of time – it’s been sleeping eating and playing Civ3. Damn it’s addictive. I can’t complain about failing one class or two now. Oh mu bad.

What to take? I think I will drop my german course plan in lieu of more interesting classes. The german curriculum has begun to give me the impression of a technical training, and I have enough of that with the chem requirements. I might take Analytic Chemistry, Intro to Symbolic Logic, and Modern Philosophy, in that order over the MWF mornings. Now, what shall I take as the fourth?
Classes I found compelling were stuff like Empire theory and slavery, Intro to International Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Lesbian Literature and Psychology, Researching the lives of ordinary people, Intro to Archaeology, or American Feminism, something to fill out those damned bio requirements for the chem major. Ugh. I don’t know. I will do scissors rock and paper for them and just stick with it. I don’t care. I pretend.
