• > Why is she so personal with these insults tho:kek~1:

    pretty standard for koreans
they have a very, very narrow definition in all aspects of life (physical, mental, lifestyle, culture, income, thoughts) of what is considered the NORMAL range
    the moment you deviate
    they start asking
    “why?”
“so short. did she grow up in a war torn country?”
“guy clothes? is she a feminist”

“get back to the pack with the rest of us”

if you look at Korean TV shows
the moment someone who deviates from the norm shows up on screen
it’s like everyone know what are the questions popping up in everyone’s head
“why does this guy not have a mother?”
“why are those two so dark when they are from the United States”
“that guy says he’s from California but he has an indian accent. I’m so confused”
    so no one is asking
but they spend the next hour
    just addressing those questions

“his parents immigrated from India in the 1980s, you see”
“ooooohhhh I seeeeee” (that explains everything)
    “ohhh interestingggggg”
even TV programs directed to young people
    it’s always the same

  • man i will forever be scarred with that day when my mexican twitch viewer asked me
“uh ok so you are protestant…”
“do you guys believe in God?”
    “and Jesus?”

another thing that shocked me about that mexican twitch viewer is that he called himself a “catholic”, not “christian”
i thought labeling protestants as christians and Catholics as catholics was something that only Korean protestants engaged in, to push catholicism to the margins
i thought catholics in latin america wouold call themselves “christians”
and give some label to protesttants.. the usual one seems to be “evangelicals”
but why is that mexican catholic guy calling himself “catholic” instead of “christian”
and he got confused when I didn’t adopt that “christian” label, which I did not adopt out of respect to catholics

    > that always confused me as well, cuz the catholic church was the og christian church in the west

yeah there’s that historical precedent too
but in latin america, catholicism is the mainstream religion
the “default” religion if you don’t have anything else going for you
so why would latin american catholics not lay claim to the “christian” label?

  • > Do you guys speak in tongues?

Presbyterians generally tend to not be too hot into the whole miracles and speaking in tongues thing, although that varies from church to church
Pentecostal-aligned denominations are more into that
and Presbyterians stand diametrically on the opposite end of that emotional axis from Pentecostals
the running joke about Presbyterians is
“how many Presbyterians do you need to replace your light bulb?”
“not sure about that but they will be happy to get their building infrastructure committee involved, and form exploratory subcommittees, evaluation subcommittees, and many more as deemed needed to duly carry out the task of bulb replacement

  • dumbfucks at facebook strike again

all this “you must enable advanced protection” buzz in the email
when all they wanted you to do was to turn on 2FA
then I click through their “steps”, which notify me that I already have 2FA
    whyyyyyy send the email thennnnn
thank you for making me waste 2 minutes facebook
I spent more time assessing whether the email itself was a phishing scheme, than going through facebook’s steps

  • so like i saw this on my youtube recomms and wondered for a second “is this possibly a legit self-critique? i wasn’t expecting any narrative like this to surface”

nope it was just one of them right wing channels

  • so i was looking up historic covid stat trends in Alameda County and LA County in preparation for my trip to Oakland next weekend, and took a look at Korea’s since last week my family was talking about a spike in Korea

woa Korea is having an unprecedented surge in February 2022
cases were 0 for all intents and purposes for the entire duration of the pandemic. Measly surges like “1,000 cases a day” in December 2020 were considered “emergency spikes”
And then by February 17, 2022 it climbed up to 110,000 cases a day
I remember family commenting “it’s high because we test so much”
that can’t be true.. Korea was notorious for testing a ton of people from very early in the pandemic.. if I remember correctly. In contrast, I never got a chance to see a test in LA until March 2021, even though I had been trying to get tested since Fall/Winter 2020.

  • trump would have owned that motherfucker on twitter
    “bearfucker!”
“how many apprentice shows did you make it to anyway”

“putin is my best friend. we struck a deal”
“we do minimal combat, mostly involving french and polish troops, not our troops”
“then we share donbas and the black sea corridor with russia to help russia touch romania”
“we partition kiev in two as a sign of goodwill”
“we have peace in our time folks”
“no american blood has been spilled for uruguay”

  • S: Season 3 next year🙏🏼
    C: of what
    A: covid
    A: 2020-2021 season 1 of covid, 2021-2022 season 2 of covid
J: they’re running out of source material

    me: covid prequel :blush~1:
    ooooh
so maybe it’s about time for a recap episode
    all variants surge at once
    “Do you remember Alpha?”
    Smallpox: “wait for me guys”
Smallpox: “I just need to make it out of this vial.. just a little bit of air pressure change…”

  • I remember having this conversation with a colleague in March 2020
as we were on our last day in the office

“i think.. a lot of poor people will die.. leading to labor shortage so corporations won’t find us expendable”
    and then:
“actually scratch that, it means a lot of poor people will end up with disabilities, more medical debt and other debt resulting out of losing jobs, so we will be even more desperate for poverty wages”

    colleage:

    “great”

  • i woke up at 3:15am with this random ass dream that i was giving a public statement at a LA county supervisors meeting in opposition to the agenda item. I don’t ever recall having dreams on such a nerdy topic. So i retold the dream and recorded myself doing it: https://recorder.google.com/share/914294f6-71f5-4aef-aad9-d7c53fcfdf85

then went back to sleep at 4am

    • updates de vida
    • trabajo, email a coaches

  • Mmm what does this event entry mean on Google calendar :yikes: it’s not my birthday. I might have entered a fake day because i consider the birthday an element sometimes used to break 2FA. The calendar app is not letting me tap o nthe thing to see more detailed information.

Whose calendar is it anyway :yonghuh:

it does not appear on the desktop computer view of my work calendar, nor my personal calendar
so it must be.. that i have peoples’ gmail email address entered on my address book
and some of them entered their birthday and set the privacy setting of that info as public
and it shows up on my phone
but not the desktop browser view :yonghuh:
the only problem: i can’t tap or long press on this to see who it is
so other than knoiwing that their name starts with “Y”
    this is kinda useless
i wonder if it’s a deprecated function that android developers forgot to finish erasing

  • i think most korean soup is kinda meh
    korean broth
    compared to thai/indian curry-themed things
i have had some of the soups originating from latin american countries.. and it was even more underwhelming
to which i think this pozole thing belongs
    :yikes:
    water… meat.. veggies.. heat…
    some concentrates..

    korean broth is like
“so we have developed this korean civilization for 5,000 years”
“and this is how much progress y’all made since the invention of fire?”
    “y’all need more CAPITALISM”
“to accelerate the refinement of calorie consumption culture” :yonghuh:
    “our ancestors would be disappoint”
    “oh wait”

  • Keyboard Tray

  • dude this hinge app
there are some aspects of its UX that are very polished
but its voicecall (and i think its videocall) capabilities are ass
i just had a 1 hour call with a match
hinge dropped our call like 5 times over 30 minutes
every time the call drops, i had no idea it happened, and either kept talking or remained in awkward silence trying to think what to bring up
and only when she calls me again to reconnect do i realize that the call got dropped
and when i tried to pick up the call it’s a whole another clusterfuck
hinge is shoving its survey down my throat
“how did your call go? would you like to learn more about her? thank you for providing your feedback”
while the hinge voice incoming call is still ringing
and somewhere in the notifications i think is also a message she sent saying “oh we got dropped”
    amazing
and when i use my bluetooth headsets for a video call or voice call, the app ignores the bluetooth headset
    seriously
    is this 2008
how hard was it to implement bluetooth headset support

  • i’m streaming world of tanks nd my main GPU is going between 100% and 30%.. weird, never had this happen

  • I enabled Google chat in the Gmail app today
    1. It seems they integrated back old Google Hangouts chat log, stretching back to 2013. However, not all of Google hangout chat log seems to be here. Just some of it.
    2. So many spam messages in the 2016-2017 period backlog

    3. There are some bizarre truncated exchanges and it’s unclear whether the exchange was incomplete or one sided like shown or whether the hangouts database transfer had tons of database corruptions :yonghuh:

Like this exchange with a current work colleague
Hmm is this when I was working on brushing up colleagues resume :monkahmm:

I give this scammer A for effort.

Sends three pages worth of Nigerian bank scheme, and then follows up by sending “please do you understand English?” In Korean language

  • Nothing to do

  • MBTI: INTP

I was talking with my parents about some difficulties at work last night, and dad brought up the question “what kinds of things do you like to do”, which led me to thinking about personality types – 20 years ago, back in college, the career counselor had me take the Myer-Briggs (MBTI) personality test. Back then, it came out as INTJ, with the J being an almost 50/50 split between Judging and Prospecting.

I read that personality types can slowly change over time due to life experiences and such. I took a simple online version today, and my responses seem to have made it shift more decisively towards P now. The iNtuitive also shifted somewhat heavily towards obServant.

I read the relationships and dating descriptions of INTJ and INTP and I felt.. ooof please stop attacking me xD

That said, emotions may still feel like a second language to these personalities. Rather than getting to the core of their relationship conflicts, Architects might treat them as puzzles to be solved – an approach that isn’t always successful.

    INTJ

  • i’m starting the year
by googling “IRS federal tax rate 2022”

great, my formula for calculating tax payments was wrong
i was just thinking “my cashflow is a bit low, i wish i had left more money in the checking account. a bit nervous actually”
in the meantime overpaid 5k in taxes in december bc of my faulty formula, just found out now :yonghuh:
maybe if I do my taxes early this year i can get it back

actually after reviewing the formula logic, formula seems correct. it generates the correct amount for december’s payment
why did i pay double that :yonghuh:
